Passing through the Fire

by: CDupre

"They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the Lord commanded them: But were mingled among the heathen, And learned their works. And they served their idols: Which were a snare unto them. Yea, they sacrificed their sons And their daughters unto devils, And shed innocent blood, Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, Whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: And the land was polluted with blood."
Psalm 106:34-38

Young Briggs was to be sacrificed to an unknown giant. Many had gone before him. All he knew was that none had returned, and he was soon to follow.

Is this of thy whoredoms a small matter, That thou hast slain my children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through the fire for them?"

Aloria kicked out her bare foot at the small bird pecking at the ground before her.  The bird chirped once and flew away.  Before it disappeared into the trees, the young girl went back to clawing at the metal shackle around her ankle.  She did not know how long she had.  Minutes?  Hours?
Her simple, but elegant white gown soaked up her sweat.  The breeze that stirred the surrounding trees chilled the collecting moisture.  She shivered and wiped her brow, dislodging the decorative circlet that graced her blonde head.
Giving her raw fingers a break, she glanced around the clearing.  The tree neare

Devotion: Wolf Hunt

by RuetheFox

It narrates the tale of a hunter who kills wolves out of anger at one who killed his mother (which had actually killed her for survival). He however realizes that by doing so, he was in fact being worse than that one wolf had been.

Devotion: Wolf HuntThere was once a man who lived on the mountains. Every day, he went out on the woods and shot all the wolves he could find. A wolf had killed his mother a couple of years earlier, so he loathed them all. Once he learned to hunt, he went out and began his hunt on the wolves with the goal of killing as many as he could.
One day, he spotted a female wolf drinking from a stream peacefully. He loaded his double barrel, took the aim, and shot. The she-wolf yelped and tried to run, but the shot got her thigh. The man loaded again and shot, this time square on her back. She fell forward and breathed heavily for a few minutes until she succumbed to her wounds and died.
Satisfied with his accomplishment, the hunter began heading away from the dead wolf, until he heard a sound coming from the bushes. He loaded his gun as he waited for whatever was coming. From the bushes, came a small wolf pup. The pup saw the dead wolf and ran towards her. He nudged her repeatedly, as if trying to wake her

Beautiful stories and tales of unknown authors translated to English by ArwingRox

Stories to reflect: 'The good king'Once upon a time, there was a little prince. He was very loved by their people and, after the sad death of his father, he would be crowned soon. The night before the coronation, the prince had a strange dream: he saw a powerful merchant ordering to a poor man to seek for a wonderful pearl in the deep of the sea. The poor man dived and dived, and he found several beautiful pearls, but the merchant was no satisfied with any of them and said:
"This pearl will be for the crown of the new king. It has to be the best one!"
So the poor man seeked more pearls again until his strength failured and he finnaly died drowned.
Then, the prince dreamt with a workshop where several women were working without a breath. They were knitting a long and precious red coat, full of wonderful jewels of all colors, but some of those women were old and were very tired. One of them was pregnant and she felt sick and dizzy, but the owner of the workshop shout at her:
"This coat will be used by the new king during
Stories to reflect: 'The fox and the bear'.One day, a man was walking in the forest when, suddenly, he found a hurt fox. The poor creature's legs had been broken while it was running from a hunter and the animal was so hurt that he wasn't able to move to seek for food.
The man felt pity of the fox and decided to help him. But then, he saw a gigantic bear which was looking at between the trees. The bear dragged the remains of an animal that he had fed of. The bear seemed has no interest on the fox; in fact, he dropped the corpse in front of him and went to seek a new catch. The fox ate the meat with a terrible anxiety.
The next day, the man went again to the forest and there he saw the same scene the day before: the bear had thrown a dead catch close to the hungry fox and, again, the poor animal had eaten the food desperately. The next day, the scene repeated itself again.
The man reflected carefully on what he has seen and thought: "If God takes care of this poor animal, how much more he will care of me? I've to learn to trust

The Wanderer's Guard

The story is aimed at taking a simple doctrine of forgiveness and the reality many face with respect to anger and hatred towards their fellow-man and creating an action-packed account that involves both the physical and spiritual realms that coexist. The Guards are a much a part of the reality at each step. It not only highlights common issues but give the unseen world an active voice in the affairs of mankind. It is a window into the soul. Knighthood Chronicles

Knighthood Chronicles B.1 Ch.1CHAPTER 1
Anaya Amerada woke after a deep, dream filled sleep. Looking out her window, she smiled at the silvery light lining the horizon. A warm breeze was drifting through her poorly made cotton curtains and brushed against her gentle face, tanned from the sun. In the distance, she could hear her horses shrill call. She wanted out. So did Anaya.
Anaya climbed out of bed and looked out at the clear, starlit sky. The full moon blazed in the early morning, giving the green fields of the land a new, fresh look. Anaya smiled broadly as she hurriedly got dressed into comfortable clothes for riding, pulled her red tinted hair back into a long braid, packed a small bag with the journal her friend Gavin had given her, belted her sword and slipped into the kitchen. She crept past her uncles and older brothers rooms as quietly as she could. Finally in the kitchen, she grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl, a few lumps of sugar and gently placed them in the bag.
Anaya slipped out of the weathered
Knighthood Chronicles B.1 Ch.2CHAPTER 2
Anaya hid in the barn until she saw Uncle Neil and Joseph leave for town on a hired coach. After their coach was out of sight, Anaya saddled up Izzy, picked up Fog (because he was too little to run beside her) and trotted off to Moonlight's Cave. As she rode through the forest, her mind was flooded with the events of that morning. She thought about what her uncle and Joseph would do if she had been accepted as the first woman knight that walked into Camelot.
'They would probably apologize and beg for forgiveness.' She thought, smiling at the picture of Joseph and her uncle apologizing to her. She kept this picture in her mind until she arrived at Moonlight's Cave. There she found a patch of blue berries and ate, as she was hungry from not being allowed to have breakfast. It was an unfair punishment for 'taking' Joseph's abandoned cloths.
After she was full and had cleared her mind, she headed back home to help Gavin around the barn.
As she walked home, the memory of that brav

Anaya was glad the nightmare had ended. It would be the end of her world if Joseph were knighted.  She hoped that King Arthur wouldn't see through her like he did in her dream. She especially hoped she wouldn't be caught and sent home, or worse her uncle finding her and dragging her back to ugly dresses and a prison for a room.
Suddenly, a wave of memories flooded Anaya's mind all at once. She remembered the storm and falling off Izzy into the river, the strange flashes of color, the sea of red and the terrible headache much worse than the one she had now. She also remembered the figure on the log who had saved her.
Slowly opening her eyes, Anaya looked around the camp she was in. It was dark; she guessed it was about two hours after sunset. She gently touched her forehead, feeling something like cloth wrapped around it.
'I don't like the look of this.' She thought to herself, understanding that she was in someone's camp, being helped or had been c
Knighthood Chronicles Ch.4CHAPTER 4
A man stood on the top of a high cliff overlooking the city of Camelot. He thought about King Arthur and felt sick to his stomach. He once lived as an honorable knight, but in a land not far from Camelot, until he tried to kill Arthur for the crown and take his sword, Excalibur.
"One day I will rule Camelot, and I will be greater then the wimpy King they have now." He thought to himself.
"Father!" Called his son, Conall as he climbed the cliff Accolon stood on.
Accolon turned and smiled at his son, heir to the rebellion tribe, and possibly Camelot itself. "Conall. Is something wrong?" Answered Accolon.
"I spotted two travelers close to camp heading for Camelot. One is a monk, and the other is a slender looking page or squire." Answered Conall
Accolon thought for a moment. He cannot allow his enemy to get stronger than he already is. If he could capture this knight, he could train him to follow him.
He looked at his son with an evil glint in his eye. "Take th

A New Beginning

by Watertiger1419

This is Nadia, a shy believer of the Lord, going to college and learning about life and what it means to follow Christ and her also her friends journey as well.

A New Beginning Chapter OneA New Beginning
Chapter One: Arrival
Today is the first day of college. People milled back and forth not really wanting to go to class, but rather wanted to go back home and to bed, even though it was almost noon.  The majority of the students hung out in the student center since there really wasn’t anywhere else to go. There was one such person, who just finished their first class, went to the student center.
A female student walked into the center carrying many textbooks. She stopped and looked around the room. It was packed like a can of sardines and there wasn’t a place that wasn’t taken up by some group of people.
In her awe about the amount of people she didn’t notice that there were others behind her trying to get by and was bumped from behind, which sent her sprawling to the ground. The female student looked up through her ruby red hair and saw that there were three females looking down at her. There were tw

Chapter Two: Conflicts
Nadia watched as Theodore and Xavier played some weird card game with monsters and life points. It did not make any sense to her.

“What is this?” Nadia asked quietly.

“It is a card game called Magic. It is much easier to play than it is to watch unless you know how to play.” Xavier answered.

Nadia blinked a couple of times. “Okay…it seems…interesting.”

“I could teach you if you want.” Xavier offered.

“Um…okay.” Nadia said quietly looking at the floor.

Xavier smiled brightly and reached into his bag and pulled out a black deck box. “This deck will be easier for you to understand how to play.”

“After the game you can teach her. I am about to demolish you. You can’t just scoop now.” Theodore injected.

A New Beginning Chapter 3Nadia stared at the sight before her. The café was crowded. Students sat in booths and at the tables. A waiter walked back and forth brining food to the different tables.
Opal grabbed her arm, “Come on, there is a booth open.” She dragged Nadia over to the table. Nadia got in first and Opal sat next to her. Xavier sat across from Opal.
A waiter came over. Nadia studied him. He wore a white dress shirt, black dress shoes, and black dress pants. He had slightly messy light brown hair and warm dark green eyes. He had high cheek bones and a strong chin. He also had a scar across his left cheekbone. He had a warm tan and looked like he worked out. He wore a name tag that read, ‘Kreen.’
“Opal it is nice to see you here.” Kreen said.
“Yes, it’s nice to see you as well.” Opal replied with a big smile.
“You brought a new friend with you.” Kreen said looking at Nadia.
“This is Nadia, our newest member.” Opal rep
A New Beginning chp. 4: Music TheoryNadia walked into the classroom. It was spacy. There were six rows of tables and six across. You could fit two at a table. The walls were made of white blocks and the floors were covered in white tile. There were no windows. In the front of the room was a huge whiteboard with a screen that could be pulled down in front of it. In the back corner of the room looked to be a decent sized closet.
Nadia noticed that she was the first on in the room. She took a seat in the front row, on the far side on the outside. She pulled out a planner and a pen. She sat there and waited doodling on the side of the paper.
Other students came in and took their seats around the room. One of them sat down next to Nadia. Nadia looked up to see it was a young lady.
The young lady wore a slightly low cut dark purple shirt, black jeans with a few rips on it, a belt that hung off the hip, purple fingerless gloves, black boots and a dark purple hooded cloak. She had long pale blonde hair with black highlights. The

PROLOGUE
I put on my earphones, and tried to ignore my parents arguing downstairs. It was hard. They had both come home around the same time, both drunk. They did that often, but I still wasn't used to it. Their raised voices ground into me, and I shivered. I leaned closer to my computer, trying to become my own world, and not be part of theirs.
When they got quiet, I got up and locked the door to my room. When they got quiet, and no longer arguing with each other, it was a dangerous time for me. My side still hurt from last week, and I didn't want to get hurt worse. I had found that the best thing to do was hide, and not go out, not move around. Just be quiet, and hide. I heard them walking around in the hallway but they didn't come to my door. I wanted to breath a sigh of relief, but you never know. I was just going to wait everything out before I became relieved.
When I was pretty sure that they had both gone to sleep, o
A Dream Awakening prt II hunched my shoulders against the cold rain, then turned from the doorway that I had been standing in.
Sure, I know, downtown New York, in the middle of the night is not the safest place for a teenage girl, but where could I go? My parents were gone, due to alcohol, drug and me abuse. I hadn't heard from my older brother in years, and I didn't want to be in a foster home. So here I was. Besides, I can take care of myself.
A noise caught my attention, and I turned sharply. Two men walked out of the shadows toward me. I kept walking. If I showed them that I was afraid, then it would only make matters worse for me. One grabbed my shoulder. "Hey, girlie," he said.
I pulled away, not saying anything.
"You wanna do stuff tonight?"
"No," I said it firmly, but inside of me was shaking.
He grabbed my arm, and this time I didn't shake him off. I felt the punch before I saw it, and it hit me hard. The ground me me stiffly and it hurt. I got back up, but they just hit me back down, laughing. I co
A Dream Awakening prt III just leaned my head against the window, and sighed. "I'll be fine," I said.
She looked at the man who wanted to help me. "Daddy, is she okay?"
"She'll be okay, Raine."
He said it Rayne.
I curled up against the door, cradling my arm, trying to shut the pain out. It wasn't working. I tried not to cry, but a sob choked out of me, and it made the pain worse.
"Are you sure you don't want to go to the hospital?" he asked.
I nodded. "I can't," I whispered. "I just can't." They would ask me questions, questions I could answer. Questions that would put me where I didn't want to be.
When we got to the house, he had to halfway carry me in. I had to lean against him, the pain was so bad. The pain was tearing me up inside and it felt like it was slowly killing me. It was all sort of pain, physical, mental, any kind of pain? It was there.
I saw a chair and all I could do fall into it, and just sit there, trembling.
When he flipped on the light, I could really see what Raine looked like. She had da
A Dream Awakening prt IIIThe light turned on and I tried not to let the fear show on my face.
Alex came up and gently touched me on the arm. "Wake up," he said softly,
"Jason is here to see you."
I pretended to wake up, and put my left arm over my face. I had gone to do it with my right arm, and the pain was way too jolting. I bit my lip, and I could feel a few tears running down my face. Tears I had never cried.
Jason sat down on the bed, and opened his black bag. I tried not to flinch away, but Alex said that he was there to help me. Maybe he could make all this pain go away.
The process of examining took oh I don't know how long. It seemed like forever. He was prodding and poking – trying to be nice about it, but there was no way it wasn't going to hurt. He finally ended up saying that he thought I had a fractured arm, a broken rib, maybe more, and he thought that he might have to take me into his hospital(he had his own practice)because he thought there might be more internal injuries. He said there w
